In today’s episode, I’m joined by my teenage daughter Hannah as we talk about confidence. We talk about the negative soundtrack in our head, how comparison gets in the way, and our problematic tendency to shrink and hide – when really, we were made to SHINE. It’s time to own who we are and start believing we’re enough.

Things to Remember From Today’s Episode:

Growth doesn’t mean perfection or that you’ve “arrived” at mastery level. Growth just means you’re a tiny bit better today than you were yesterday….or six months ago. It’s slow forward progress.

Here are those definitions of confidence Hannah and I talked about:

*The state of feeling certain about the truth of something

*A feeling of self-assurance arising from one’s appreciation of one’s own abilities or qualities.

I’m going to say my “momism” to you again. You are a person worth knowing.

Confidence is not walking into a room thinking you’re better than everyone else – it’s walking into a room being 100% okay with who YOU are, not having to compare yourself to everyone else in the room.

People are not thinking about you as much as you think they are.

Sometimes the things we do to “protect” ourself or make ourselves smaller/invisible are the things that hurt us or draw MORE attention.

Confidence doesn’t come from trusting in your ability to always be right or do everything perfectly – but in not being afraid of making a mistake.

Negative thoughts MUST be defeated with the truth! (You are enough. You are worthy. You are loved.) <— That’s the truth!

Action Steps:

*Reach out and say hi to someone you’ve been wanting to get to know in a way that makes you the most comfortable.

*Join in ONE activity you’d normally sit out on.

Mentioned on Today’s Podcast:

I wrote a blog post on my Chasing Supermom blog about the conversation I had with my dad about “every stage of parenting being the BEST stage.” You can check it out here: This Is The Best: Embracing the Now

Our “See the Good” podcast episode just keeps popping back up over and over again in new pods – and I’m not surprised. This is a message we all desperately need to hear right now! So check it out!

I referenced the Bible verse our podcast is named after. Here it is:

Matthew 5:14-16

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”

Stop putting your light under a bowl! Go out there and SHINE it!
